Internal Quarterly events

Three times a year, the PI.lab wil organize an internal meeting, directed at PI.lab researchers of the three institutes.

In 2018, the three following quarterly events will be organized


April 23

TILT, Montesquieubuilding, Prof. Cobbenhagenlaan 221, Tilburg.

14.00 – 17.00 hrs (drinks afterwards).

Programme: to be announced; the programme will host a number of PI.lab researchers presenting their work and an external speaker.

Radboud University, Huygens building, Heyendaalseweg 135, Nijmegen

13.00 – 16.00 hrs (drinks afterwards)

Programme: theme of the meeting is explainable/responsible AI: what is needed to arrive at algorithmic transparency that integrates innovation and privacy considerations.

September 28

TNO, Anna van Buerenplein 1, Den Haag

14.00 – 17.00 hrs (drinks afterwards)

Programme: theme of the meeting is the presentation of research projects by researchers of the PI.lab. The focus will be on PhD research and on research performed by junior and medior researchers. Each researcher will be able to present her/his research in a brief and concise presentation.

November 19

14.00 – 17.00 hrs (drinks afterwards)

Programme: theme of the meeting is blockchain and privacy. The meeting will focus on a critical reflection on options and pitfalls concerning the use of blockchain for securing privacy.

Organisation: Jaap-Henk Hoepman (Radboud University/TILT/RUG); Maarten Everts (TNO); Mireille Hildebrand (Radboud university/VUB).


Round table

Two times a year, the PI.lab will organize a round table. These round table conferences are expert meetings on invitation only. The focus of the round table conferences is a critical reflection on topics of interest with the intention to involve policy makers, relevant organisations and researchers in an early stage of developments taking place.


First round table 2018: The Home 2.0

Privacy by design community

The PI.lab has joined forces with ECP (Platform for the information society) in organizing a privacy by design community. In previous years a number of meetings have been held. In 2018, the focus of the meetings will be re-oriented towards organisations directly participating in the data economy. The PI.lab and ECP will together work on the Action Programme ‘Privacy as Innovation Opportunity’, funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Part of this Action Programme is the organization of a number of meetings with developers and privacy officers on a number of specific topics.

PI.lab Summerschool

The PI.lab has joined forces with imec (Belgium), KULeuven (Belgium) and TU Dresden (Germany) in organizing the first truly interdisciplinary Summerschool.

In 2018, the third edition of the Summerschool will take place.

Theme of the Summerschool is ‘AI, Algorithms and Privacy’.

Location: Hotel Erica, Molenbosweg 17, Berg en Dal, The Netherlands.

Annual PI.lab conference

The annual PI.lab conference 2018 will take place on Friday 14 December.

Location: In de Driehoek Vergader- en Congrescentrum, Willemsplantsoen 1C, Utrecht
